Starting from Scratch

Bonjour mes amies, remember me? It's Louise again, back in the blog-o-sphere with all the boring and not-so-boring (yeah right) things I have to say.

I've basically been blogging since eighth grade, when I also started journaling. Journaling and blogging have basically saved my life. Literally, I'm not just spouting hyperboles over here. I also love typing away at my thoughts because it makes me feel productive, and I love to look back on entries later and gain a sense of perspective.

I used Livejournal on and off again for the better part of four years, resulting in like four different accounts that I (believe it or not) actually remember the passwords for. I've also had this little puppy that I started this summer, in which I actually blogged about my days and not just my angst.

But I haven't been blogging since the year has started, and while I have done a little journaling, I've missed the blog-o-sphere. My bestie Maja has a blog that I read, but I haven't been on Blogspot in ages. Thankfully Miss Emily Rice is kicking me back into gear.

Emily can be found here. She and our other friend Abby have decided, as a New Year's Resolution, to try a 365 -- basically a blog that we update every day. As Emily put it:

one of my friends, abby davis (http://abbsdavs.blogspot.com/), and i have decided that we want to do 365s with the new year. we want to hold each other accountable for actually writing the bloody blog posts, and we are hoping that you (whoever you are) will hold us accountable as well by commenting on our posts. to us, this is a big deal since we are about to go off to college---which means this blog will follow us from being surrounded by people who know what we eat for breakfast to being placed among people that don't even know our names. i am not entirely sure what abby wants to post about with her 365, but i want to do mine focused on arts by creating something new every day and sharing the art i find with y'all.

She said it much more eloquently than I could hope for, haha. So, here I am, back on blogging. I'm sure Emily and Abby will be the only ones who comment, but I'm doing this as much for me as I am to hold up my end of the resolution.

Not gonna lie, I'm nervous about the "bloody blog posts." I told Em, I get super paranoid about stuff like this, which is why my old Livejournals were only accessible to my interwebs friends that I never saw in real life. But. I'm going to be brave, and go for it.

As you can see, when I started this blog, I started doing this thing with music sharing, or TV shows, or books, or whatever. Basically what I'm currently focusing on. I'm hoping to continue this, along with documenting the ins and outs of my life.

I guess I should explain the title of this blog. I took it from one of my favorite Oscar Wilde quotes: "we are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." I really like the idea behind the phrase, because I feel like it goes beyond the typical half full/half empty metaphor.

Anyways, I'll do an introduction post tomorrow, like who I am or whatever, since all stories need a beginning. So, for tonight, Louise is out. :)
